For this final project I want to address the issues concerning the usage of guns. I want to portray a more positive outlook on how guns are used and show they are not the tools of evil many think they are. Not that guns haven't been the cause of many bad incidents, but in most cases the negative extremes tend to outshine everything else. I don't want to make guns seem like toys, but in some cases people shoot them as a hobby. There are tournaments for skill and showmanship, clubs for hunting, and even kids are exposed to guns with toys like Nerf. Just because something has the potential to be used in a harmful manner doesn't mean that it can't be used otherwise. My goal is to show some of these attributes in the series for this final project.
Techniques and Imagery
I have access to photograph a few different people involving the use of guns. My father has a small collection and belongs to a hunting club with other people who also have some. Hopefully I can get an opportunity to get photographs of them to create a group image. I also plan to find younger people and have them use Nerf guns for another part in the series. There is a shooting range in Cuyahoga falls that I can visit to get more imagery of weapons and the people who shoot as a hobby. Hopefully I can get a different range of ages from there. I want to capture a more positive view on guns and having men, women, and children in the images can help push away from a more military vibe.
