Here is the final project for photo tech. I wanted to do something with guns and express how they are not only used to kill people. I used a lot of my own photographs and edited the ones I found to fit my project. Overall I liked being able to chose my topic and it turned out pretty well.

Rough idea
I have yet to get the photos of the people I want to use for this project, but plan on getting them in the next couple days. I took photos for the different settings near my house and still need a few more. So far I'm just working on the layout of my images. I'm starting to lean more towards the tiptych style, but I may just have a large image once I gather all my images.

Assignment 5
Project Proposal
For this final project I want to address the issues concerning the usage of guns. I want to portray a more positive outlook on how guns are used and show they are not the tools of evil many think they are. Not that guns haven't been the cause of many bad incidents, but in most cases the negative extremes tend to outshine everything else. I don't want to make guns seem like toys, but in some cases people shoot them as a hobby. There are tournaments for skill and showmanship, clubs for hunting, and even kids are exposed to guns with toys like Nerf. Just because something has the potential to be used in a harmful manner doesn't mean that it can't be used otherwise. My goal is to show some of these attributes in the series for this final project.
Techniques and Imagery
I have access to photograph a few different people involving the use of guns. My father has a small collection and belongs to a hunting club with other people who also have some. Hopefully I can get an opportunity to get photographs of them to create a group image. I also plan to find younger people and have them use Nerf guns for another part in the series. There is a shooting range in Cuyahoga falls that I can visit to get more imagery of weapons and the people who shoot as a hobby. Hopefully I can get a different range of ages from there. I want to capture a more positive view on guns and having men, women, and children in the images can help push away from a more military vibe.
Schedule:
April 2-8
Finalize concepts, gather imagery, layout preliminary designs and establish what techniques to be used.
April 9-15
Have rough designs in photoshop, start photographing subjects, edit imagery, and test print concepts(small).
April 16-22
Refine designs, gather and edit more photos, and test print remaining concepts.
April 23-29
Finalize one concept and test print at full size for critique.
Finals Week
Print full size final concepts.

Assignment 4 Finals
These are the final images for Assignment 4.
My concept was to express that plastic water bottles are bad to use and drink from. I used a more grunge type style to push the idea of the negative effects of bottled water. Overall I like how they came out as a series.

Assignment four ideas
For this project I wanted to focus on the negative issues of clean water.
I'm still thinking about wether or not I should focus on the impact of having clean water or the lack of it for others.
My idea of clean water being bad is based on the amount of plastic used from bottled water. I would like to work with a plastic bottle in my piece, but as of now I'm still thinking of concepts.

I liked the color in this series by David Goldes

Critique Two

First Critique
I wanted to use emotion as the focus of my diptychs. The gaming community always has levels of frustration though the wide range of games. This first set of portraits I took were meant to show facial expressions as if I were a distraction to the player. Gaming usually comes with a side of irritation when you have to stop playing to either answer the phone, get the door, or whatever. I wanted to try and capture this emotion in order to have more interesting images. The second photo would be used to show reactions to defeat, which at some point every game has.
Here is a sample diptych and some of the better photos I took I may use.

American Pastimes
Idea list:
Music
Games
The Outdoors
Crafts/Art
I would ideally like to get images of people with the different of games we play to pass the time.
My thought on this were to find one person that plays on the computer, counsel(xbox/ps3/wii), board, tabletop, iphone, or gameboy.
Here is a mood board for a simple look at the different types of types of games

Assignment One
I took a image that was printed out, ripped it up, and then scanned it for this project. The goal was to take a image and retouch it using various tools in photoshop. This image was fairly simple but was damaged quite a lot. The process took about 5 hours to repair from its scanned state to a clean finish.
